A 10-Minute Daily Stress Plan for Hormone Stability

A 10-Minute Daily Stress Plan for Hormone Stability

Topic: Stress plan

“Reduce stress” is the most vague—and annoying—advice given to women. You have a job, a family, bills, and a commute. You cannot just “be less stressed.”

But hormonally, we need to address it. Chronic stress keeps cortisol high.

  • Cortisol steals resources from Progesterone (the “calm” hormone).
  • Cortisol induces Insulin Resistance (causing belly fat and cravings).
  • Cortisol suppresses thyroid function.

Since we cannot eliminate the stressors (the job, the traffic), we have to increase the body’s resilience to them. We need to complete the “stress cycle.” You don’t need an hour of meditation. You need 10 minutes of targeted physiology hacking.

The Toolkit (Pick and Mix 10 Minutes)

1. The Physiological Sigh (2 Minutes)

This is the fastest way to lower heart rate in real-time.

  • How: Inhale deeply through the nose. Then, inhale a second sharp sip of air on top. Exhale long and slow through the mouth.
  • When: In the car, before a meeting, or right when you walk in the door. 10 reps tells your nervous system “The danger is over.”

2. The “Shake Out” (2 Minutes)

Animals shake after a threat to discharge energy. We sit still and steward it.

  • How: Literally stand up and shake your hands, bounce on your heels, or dance aggressively to one song.
  • Why: It burns off the mobilized adrenaline.

3. Legs Up The Wall (6 Minutes)

This is a restorative yoga pose (Viparita Karani) that activates the parasympathetic (rest and digest) system.

  • How: Lie on the floor, bum against the wall, legs straight up. Close your eyes.
  • Why: It reduces venous pressure and physically signals safety to the body.

The “Bookend” Strategy

If you can’t find 10 minutes at once, bookend your day.

  • Morning (5 mins): Sunlight + 3 deep breaths. Do not touch phone.
  • Evening (5 mins): Legs up the wall before getting into bed.

You are training your nervous system to come back to baseline. A flexible nervous system is a hormonally healthy one.
