The Estrobolome: How Your Gut Bacteria Control Extrogen
The Estrobolome: How Your Gut Bacteria Control Extrogen
Topic: Gut health
We think of estrogen as being made in the ovaries. But how does it leave the body? Through the poop.
There is a specific colony of bacteria in your gut called the Estrobolome. Its main job is to process used estrogen so it can be excreted.
The Recycling Problem
- Healthy Gut: You use estrogen -> Liver packages it -> Gut bacteria move it out -> You poop it out.
- Unhealthy Gut (Dysbiosis/Constipation): You use estrogen -> Gut bacteria produce an enzyme called Beta-glucuronidase -> This enzyme “unpackages” the estrogen -> Estrogen gets reabsorbed into the blood.
The Result: Estrogen Dominance
You end up with “Recycled Estrogen” + “New Estrogen.”
- Symptoms: Heavy periods, PMS, breast tenderness, bloating, fibroid growth.
The Fix
- Poop Daily: If you are constipated, you are reabsorbing hormones.
- Eat Cruciferous Veggies: Broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage contain DIM, which helps the liver package estrogen safely.
- Calcium D-Glucarate: A supplement that blocks the “unpacking” enzyme (Beta-glucuronidase).
Hormone balance starts on the toilet.
